Delhi Police File FIR After Woman Alleges AI Face-Swap of Her Photo at CJP Protest

Delhi Police have registered a first information report against unidentified persons after a woman alleged that her photograph was digitally manipulated and used during the protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar.

In her complaint, the woman said her image was altered using artificial intelligence and face-swapping technology to superimpose it with a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She stated that she has no association with the CJP or with the demonstration, and that her picture was taken and modified without her consent.

According to the complaint, the manipulated image was later printed on large banners and posters displayed at the protest site. The woman also alleged that indecent slogans linked to the image were raised by protesters, and that a video containing the altered photograph was circulated on social media, particularly Instagram.

She said the episode damaged her dignity and tarnished her reputation, and that the use of her photograph had no connection to her whatsoever.

The complaint further contains allegations of threats and harassment. The woman has alleged that some boys threatened her and behaved in a manner that amounted to an outrage of her modesty during the protest.

The complaint named CJP founders Abhijeet Dipke and Saurav Das, among others. However, the FIR does not list Dipke, Das or Ashutosh Ranka as accused. Police said the matter is being investigated from all angles.

The CJP-led agitation began on June 20 and ran for more than a month, and included a march towards Parliament during which protesters clashed with security personnel. Security forces used lathis and teargas shells to disperse the crowds. The demonstration was called off on July 25 after former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned and the government accepted the CJP's other demands. The alleged misuse of the woman's photograph occurred during the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar in July.
