Delhi PG Collapse: Adjacent Building to Be Demolished After Being Declared Unsafe
MCD will demolish a weakened building adjacent to the Satya Niketan collapse site that killed seven and injured six.
Civic authorities in Delhi have decided to demolish an adjacent structure in Satya Niketan after inspectors found it weakened and unsafe in the wake of Sunday's deadly building collapse. The demolition will be carried out in a calibrated, phase-wise manner over the next one to two days, according to Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar.
The five-storey building that came crashing down on Sunday afternoon housed nearly 75 students in paying guest rooms. Seven people were killed and six others injured in the incident. The collapse is believed to have originated in the basement, where repair work was underway at the time.
The neighbouring building, which survived the collapse, is currently being supported by 18-20 iron guardrails placed across its front, back, and centre as a precautionary measure. Following an inspection, the MCD served a notice on the structure, declaring it unsafe.
Meanwhile, Mahesh, the son of the building's landlord, is set to be produced before the Patiala House Court on Wednesday after the conclusion of his two-day police custody. During questioning, Mahesh reportedly told investigators that he managed the maintenance of the property on behalf of his parents—owner Urmila, 75, and her retired husband Hariram, 81. The couple had leased the building to PG operators 'Hostel Daze' in August 2025.
