Delhi PG Collapse: Neighbours Recount Terrifying Moments Before Building Fell

Two Delhi University students who lived in a building adjacent to the one that collapsed in Satya Niketan have described the terrifying final moments before the tragedy. The second-year students, Arnica and Mansi, were in their room at the 'Kanak Lata' PG when they noticed deep cracks spreading across the ceiling and walls.

In a video recorded moments before the collapse, Arnica can be heard saying, "This building is going to fall." The footage shows large fissures running across the room, with cement and water seeping through the widening gaps.

Seconds later, the neighbouring 'HostelDaze' PG building came crashing down, killing seven people. The students said the collapse felt like a massive tremor, prompting them to flee their own building while screaming warnings to other residents who had not yet realised the danger.

Mansi recounted a narrow escape, noting that bricks were falling near her bed. "Had I been on my bed at that moment, they would have fallen on me," she said. The exit gate was blocked by debris, forcing the group to push it open together.

The emotional toll is evident. The students said they have barely slept since the incident, haunted by the screams of those trapped under the rubble. "We can still hear the voices of the students who were buried... As if they are calling out, 'Save us,'" Mansi said, expressing disbelief that the boys next door, alive just an hour earlier, were now dead.

Arnica reflected on the shattered expectations of moving to the capital, stating they had expected South Delhi to be safe but instead found themselves in what she described as an urban slum. Their own building has since been declared unsafe and is scheduled for demolition by the municipal corporation.
