Delhi Schools, Government Offices to Shut on September 11 for BRICS Summit

Schools and government offices across Delhi will remain shut on Friday, September 11, as the national capital prepares to host the BRICS Summit, authorities have announced. Because the holiday falls on a Friday and is followed by the weekend, students and government employees will get a three-day break.

The summit itself will be held at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan on September 12 and 13. It is expected to draw several high-profile leaders and delegates, prompting extensive security arrangements across the city.

Security has been tightened at multiple locations, including premium hotels such as ITC Maurya and Taj Palace near Dhaula Kuan and in central Delhi. Traffic diversions have also been put in place along several routes. With the restrictions likely to inconvenience commuters, the decision to keep schools and government offices closed on September 11 is aimed at easing movement and managing the security and traffic arrangements.

Most of the leaders and delegates attending the summit are expected to arrive in India on September 11, which is why the closure has been scheduled for that day.

Some roads may be fully closed during VIP movements, and commuters have been advised to avoid such routes during those periods.

Travellers have also been urged to steer clear of routes around the major hotels hosting visiting leaders and delegates, where security restrictions are likely to be tighter. Anyone stopped by police during a VIP movement has been asked to cooperate with the arrangements and avoid arguments, as disrupting security operations could invite action.
