Delhi Teen Gang-Raped and Killed; Body Found in Field, Four Held
A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and stabbed to death in Delhi, her body dumped in a field where it was found partially eaten by dogs. Four suspects, including three minors, have been arrested.
Residents of Swaroop Nagar in Delhi's Northwest District alerted police on the morning of September 13 after spotting stray dogs feeding on a body lying in a nearby field. Officers who reached the spot found a heavily decomposed corpse with one hand severed and parts of it eaten away. The remains were in such a state that the gender could not be immediately determined.
Investigators said the face was completely mutilated and multiple stab wounds were visible on the body. A medical examination later confirmed rape.
The body was subsequently identified as that of a 17-year-old girl who was allegedly gang-raped and stabbed to death before being dumped in a field on Kushak Road. Police suspect the crime took place two days before the discovery, on Friday, September 11.
The girl had not been reported missing. Her family told police she would often leave home and return after a few days. According to investigators, she knew the four accused, including three minors, and had travelled with them in a tempo on the day of the incident.
All four suspects are in custody and are reported to be aged between 16 and 19. The adult accused has been identified as Shivam alias Sudama alias Chuchu, a resident of Khadda Colony, while the three juveniles are aged 16 and 17. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS and the POCSO Act.
With no apparent eyewitnesses and the perpetrators initially unidentified, police teams examined footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras covering the area and adjoining routes. A tempo was spotted moving near the scene around the relevant time, but its registration number was not clearly visible because of darkness. Investigators then tracked its movement across multiple camera locations.
A night-long search operation during the intervening night of September 15 and 16 led police to the suspected vehicle. Its driver was identified and questioned, and the investigation subsequently led to the apprehension of four persons, including three juveniles, allegedly linked to the crime.
Two knives allegedly used in the offence, clothes said to have been worn by the accused, and the tempo were recovered.
