Delhi Traffic Police announce diversions on 35+ roads for BRICS motorcade rehearsal on Sept 9 evening; commuters advised to plan alternate routes.
The Delhi Traffic Police have issued a detailed advisory for commuters ahead of the motorcade rehearsal for the BRICS Summit 2026, scheduled to take place on Wednesday evening. The rehearsal is set to run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., with Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan serving as the focal point. The main summit is slated for September 11-13.
As part of the exercise, traffic will be regulated at 22 identified diversion points spanning central, south, east, and New Delhi areas. The restrictions will affect movement on more than 35 key roads, including Sardar Patel Marg, Akbar Road, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Mathura Road, and APJ Abdul Kalam Road, among several others.
Specific diversion points include major chowks and intersections such as Dr. Dinesh Nandini Dalmia Chowk, Patel Chowk, and the RML Hospital roundabout. The police have urged motorists to factor in extra travel time and use alternative routes, especially those heading to the airport, railway stations, or inter-state bus terminals.
For air travel, the advisory strongly recommends using the Metro, which will remain fully operational at all stations. Commuters from Gurugram, Dwarka, south, west, north, and east Delhi have been provided with specific alternate routes to reach the airport and railway stations. Bus services may also face route diversions during VIP movements.
Motorists are advised to park only in designated areas, as roadside parking within 200 metres of controlled roads will be prohibited. The public is encouraged to cooperate with traffic personnel deployed at these points to ensure smooth movement during the rehearsal.
