Delhi Woman Alleges Rs 200-Crore Extortion Call in Goldy Brar's Name

A 50-year-old Delhi woman has alleged she received extortion calls from a foreign number in the name of gangster Goldy Brar, demanding Rs 200 crore.

A 50-year-old woman in north Delhi has alleged that she received extortion calls from a foreign number in the name of Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, with the caller demanding Rs 200 crore, police said on Tuesday.

If confirmed, the demand would be the highest extortion amount sought in the national capital so far, according to police.

Acting on her complaint, an FIR was registered at the Civil Lines police station. A team of the Special Cell is also investigating the matter.

A police source said the woman, a resident of Civil Lines, received the first call on September 7 at 10:44 pm. The caller identified himself as Goldy Brar, claimed to have information about her and demanded Rs 200 crore, besides threatening her with dire consequences, the source said.

The woman is said to have ignored the first call, but received another one repeating the demand and the threats, after which she approached the police. The FIR against an unidentified person was registered on September 10.

Police, however, said the facts of the case are still being verified and the amount allegedly demanded is also being ascertained, as the complainant mentioned two different figures during the inquiry.

Investigators are examining the circumstances of the alleged call in the context of a family dispute involving the woman following the death of her father-in-law. They are also trying to establish the identity of the caller, the motive behind the call and whether the caller has any links with Brar.

"Facts of the case are under verification and further investigation is being done," police said.
