DGGI detects ₹115 crore GST suppression by 13 Andhra hotels and restaurants
The DGGI's Visakhapatnam unit has booked 13 hotels and restaurants in Andhra Pradesh for allegedly suppressing ₹115 crore in taxable turnover and evading about ₹5.69 crore in GST.
The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), Visakhapatnam Zonal Unit, has booked 13 hotels and restaurants across Andhra Pradesh for allegedly suppressing taxable turnover of about ₹115 crore and evading roughly ₹5.69 crore in Goods and Services Tax.
The action followed search operations carried out over the past two months in Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Eluru, Guntur, Ongole, Nellore, Kurnool and Mandapeta.
Investigators said the establishments understated the value of their taxable supplies, declaring sales figures well below the amounts actually collected from customers.
According to officials, the operators are suspected of deleting select customer invoices from customised billing software, a method used to artificially reduce reported turnover and lower their tax liability.
The department said it is continuing to investigate whether wider networks or other entities are involved in similar manipulation of accounts through digital means.
Tax authorities have stepped up scrutiny of billing practices in the hospitality sector across the state in an effort to check such suppression of revenue.
