Dhanush Delays 'OM: Chapter 1' Release, Cites Respect for Rajinikanth and Suriya
Dhanush has postponed 'OM: Chapter 1' to avoid box-office clashes with Rajinikanth's 'Jailer 2' and Suriya's upcoming film.
National Film Award winner Dhanush has pushed back the release of his forthcoming film 'OM: Chapter 1', which had been scheduled to reach theatres on October 16.
The decision, announced by the actor in a note on his X handle, follows the prospect of a box-office collision with two other big-ticket Tamil releases.
Dhanush said the film would have opened just a day after superstar Rajinikanth's 'Jailer 2', which is set to arrive on October 15. The sequel is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and features Vidya Balan in a lead role.
Describing Rajinikanth as someone he has admired and worshipped over the years, Dhanush said he had chosen to defer his own film out of respect for the senior star, acknowledging that shifting a release brings its own difficulties.
He also ruled out a Diwali arrival for 'OM', noting that Suriya's film 'Scene' had already been announced for the festive window. Dhanush said Suriya's team had declared their date first, and that large films ought to show mutual understanding and respect for one another's decisions in the interest of the wider industry.
Suriya's 'Scene' is slated for release on November 6. Directed by Jithu Madhavan, it also stars Nazriya Nazim, Naslen, Anandraj, Lal and Raj Priyan, with Suriya playing a police officer.
'OM: Chapter 1' is written and directed by Rajkumar Perisamy and features Mammootty in a prominent role. A fresh release date is expected to be announced soon.
