Dhanush Earns Special Mention as 72nd National Film Awards Ceremony Moves to Gujarat
Dhanush received a Special Mention at the 72nd National Film Awards in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, where 'Captain Miller' picked up two honours.
Tamil actor Dhanush was presented with a Special Mention at the 72nd National Film Awards for his performance in the period action film 'Captain Miller'. President Droupadi Murmu handed over the honour on Tuesday during a ceremony held in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat.
The recognition came in the Best Actor category for his lead role in the film, directed by Arun Matheswaran. Set in pre-Independence India, 'Captain Miller' was produced by Sathya Jyothi Films.
The film also secured the award for Best Feature Film Promoting National, Social and Environmental Values, giving it two honours at this year's edition.
This was the first time the National Film Awards ceremony was held outside New Delhi. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has decided to take the celebrations to different parts of the country in the coming years, a move intended to bring Indian cinema's biggest honours closer to various regions and to highlight the country's cultural and cinematic diversity.
The 72nd National Film Awards were announced in New Delhi on July 19, 2025, recognising work across different areas of Indian cinema.
