Diana Unheard: New Docu-Series With Secret Tapes Set for Global Launch
A three-part documentary featuring secretly recorded 1991 conversations with Princess Diana will launch internationally at MIPCOM in Cannes.
A new three-part documentary series, Diana Unheard, featuring previously unheard audio recordings of Princess Diana, is set for an international launch. The series draws on secretly taped conversations Diana had with her friend James Colhurst in 1991 — recordings that formed the foundation of Andrew Morton's book Diana: Her True Story.
The rights to the series have been acquired by Cineflix, which is preparing a major launch at MIPCOM in Cannes. The programme was produced by Love Monday TV, the UK independent behind earlier shows about the British monarchy, including Her Majesty The Queen: Behind Closed Doors for ITV and William and Harry: Love and Betrayal for Channel 5.
Love Monday worked with Morton and Colhurst to secure access to the tapes. In the recordings, Diana speaks candidly about her life, her relationships and the royal family, including Prince Charles and Camilla — now King Charles III and Queen Camilla — as well as the then Prince Andrew, who has since been stripped of his royal titles following scrutiny of his ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
Kerena Barefield, Creative Director at Love Monday TV, said the series was made to challenge the narrative that has often portrayed Diana simply as a victim of her circumstances. She described the project as presenting Diana not as a passive figure overtaken by events, but as a woman taking control of her own story and risking everything to make her voice heard. The series, she added, restores authorship of one of the most scrutinised lives in modern history to the woman at its centre.
