Digi Yatra to Cover International Departures in Pilot at Five Airports

Digi Yatra is set to widen its scope to international travel as well as domestic air travel by foreign passengers, even as face-based boarding at airports is yet to begin because of infrastructure gaps.

A pilot programme for international departures will run between October and December at the airports in Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi and Mumbai.

The expansion marks a further step for the biometric passenger-processing system, which is currently used for domestic travellers. The planned pilot will test the system on international departures at five major airports across the country.

At the same time, the rollout of face-based boarding has not yet started, with infrastructure shortfalls at airports holding back the facility. The gaps mean the biometric boarding process is not yet operational, even as the programme is being readied for a wider set of passengers.

The coming months will therefore see the system tested on international departures at the five selected airports, alongside efforts to address the infrastructure constraints that have delayed face-based boarding.
