DMK fields Paranthamen, Suganya for Tamil Nadu Assembly bypolls
DMK announces I. Paranthamen for Madurantakam and S. Suganya for Dharapuram Assembly bypolls in Tamil Nadu.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has unveiled its candidates for the upcoming by-elections to two Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu. The announcement was made on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
I. Paranthamen, who serves as the deputy secretary of the party's legal wing, will contest from the Madurantakam seat. S. Suganya has been nominated for the Dharapuram constituency. Both seats are reserved and became vacant after the sitting AIADMK legislators, Maragatham Kumaravel (Madurantakam) and P. Sathyabama (Dharapuram), resigned following their move to the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Speaking after the announcement, Paranthamen expressed confidence in his prospects, stating that the party leadership's faith in him was a significant recognition. He asserted that he would win the election and dedicate the victory to the party chief.
Paranthamen also indicated that the DMK's campaign would capitalise on what he described as the government's failures on multiple fronts, its unfulfilled promises, and its reliance on what he termed "cinema scenes" to project its administration. He believes these factors would work to the DMK's advantage in the polls.
