DMK holds statewide protests over CM Vijay's Assembly remarks on Stalin
DMK units across Tamil Nadu protested Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's Assembly remarks about M.K. Stalin's MISA arrest, demanding their removal from records.
The DMK staged demonstrations across Tamil Nadu on Saturday in protest against remarks made in the Assembly by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay concerning former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
The remarks were made on Monday, during the debate on the Demand for Grants for the Police Department, and related to Mr. Stalin's arrest under the MISA. The party's district units responded by organising protests at district headquarters across the State.
In Chennai, two demonstrations were held. Former Union Minister A. Raja addressed the gathering at a protest in Saidapet led by the party's south district secretary, Ma. Subramanian. A second demonstration was held near the Collectorate, led by party organising secretary R.S. Bharathi, with Chennai Mayor R. Priya and others taking part.
Mr. Raja condemned the Chief Minister's remarks in strong terms. However, certain comments he made about a Minister during his speech have drawn criticism on social media, with Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president B. Manickam Tagore condemning them.
In Tiruchi, the protest was held in front of the Marakkadai M.G.R. statue. Former Minister and DMK principal secretary K.N. Nehru presided over and addressed the gathering, which was attended by former Minister Anbil Mahesh and MP Salma, among others.
In Salem, Rajya Sabha member Tiruchi Siva delivered a special address at a protest on the Salem Fort premises, presided over by former Minister Rajendran.
The Erode North and South district units staged a demonstration near the Kalaimadu Silai area, led by Erode North district secretary N. Nallasivam and former Minister and Erode South district secretary S. Muthusamy.
Addressing a demonstration outside the Karur Head Post Office, former Minister V. Senthilbalaji said Chief Minister Vijay and TVK functionaries must stop speaking slanderously about DMK leaders.
Slogans were raised during the demonstrations demanding, among other things, the expunction of the remarks made against the DMK president from the Assembly records.
