Woman found dead in Doddaballapur lodge; police suspect husband

A 21-year-old woman was found dead in a Doddaballapur lodge room on September 16. Police suspect her husband strangled her and fled.

A 21-year-old woman was found dead inside a room at a lodge in Doddaballapur, in Bengaluru Rural district, on September 16. The police suspect that her husband was involved in her death.

The woman, identified as Vidya, worked as a helper at the manufacturing unit of a private company in Doddaballapur and was staying in a paying guest accommodation arranged by her employer. Investigators believe her 29-year-old husband, Anand, strangled her following an argument before leaving the lodge.

Both Vidya and Anand are from Gauribidanur in Chikkaballapur district and had married about three years ago. According to the police, the couple argued frequently, and their relationship had been strained.

Vidya had recently taken up the factory job and shifted to the company-provided accommodation. On September 15, Anand came to meet her, and the two checked into a lodge in Doddaballapur town, the police said.

The death came to light after lodge staff opened the door of the room the couple had booked and found her. The police were then alerted. The body was sent for a post-mortem, and Scene of Crime officers examined the room.

The Doddaballapur Town police have registered a first information report under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, for murder, and are searching for Anand.
