Karthik Subbaraj's 'Dorothy' Earns Standing Ovation at TIFF World Premiere

Karthik Subbaraj's Tamil film 'Dorothy' received a standing ovation at its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it screened in the Centrepiece category. The film, starring Keerthy Suresh, Sananth and Rishikanth, is set for a worldwide theatrical release on September 25.

The audience applauded the cast and crew after the screening, responding to the film's performances and its distinctive storyline.

Production house Sikhya Entertainment shared photographs and a video from the event on social media, calling the occasion "truly unforgettable". In its post, the makers said the film had received a standing ovation from the TIFF audience and described it as a beautiful beginning to the film's journey into the world, expressing gratitude for the response and for everyone involved in bringing the project to life.

The cast and crew also attended the red carpet premiere at Toronto's Scotiabank Theatre. Keerthy Suresh wore a traditional ethnic ensemble, while Subbaraj, Sananth and Rishikanth appeared in coordinated tuxedos.

The film features an original score by composer Ilaiyaraaja, marking his 1,540th film. It is backed by Jio Studios and Sikhya Entertainment, and produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain in association with Dhammam Films.

'Dorothy' joins TIFF's Centrepiece programme, formerly known as Contemporary World Cinema, which showcases work by celebrated filmmakers, festival favourites and highly anticipated world premieres from around the world. The film is slated for a theatrical release across India on September 25.
