Dorothy trailer unveiled: Karthik Subbaraj's tale of friendship and caste

The trailer for Karthik Subbaraj's upcoming film Dorothy has been released, offering a first extended look at a story built around friendship, love and honour. The director shared the trailer on his Instagram account on Friday.

Keerthy Suresh, Sananth and Rishikanth play the lead roles in the film, which is set against a backdrop of caste, violence and prejudice. The narrative follows a long-standing friendship that is pushed to its limits, unfolding as a humane story about whether compassion can survive in a world divided by hate.

The trailer arrives after the makers previously put out a teaser that introduced the film's emotional atmosphere, visual style and the quiet intensity associated with Subbaraj's storytelling.

The film's score has been composed by Ilaiyaraaja, marking the veteran musician's 1,540th film. His music is expected to serve as an emotional force within the narrative.

Dorothy recently had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in the Centrepiece category, a milestone ahead of its worldwide theatrical release on September 25.

Subbaraj, who wrote and directed the film, said sharing the teaser was a special moment for those who had lived with the project for years. He described the film as set in rural India in the early 1990s, where friendship, compassion and hope are continually tested by the realities of caste, violence and prejudice. While the world of the film is rooted in a specific place and time, its emotions are universal, he said, expressing hope that the teaser would draw audiences into that world.

The film is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain in association with Dhammam Films, and is backed by Jio Studios and Sikhya Entertainment.
