DRI seizes over 18 kg of synthetic drugs in Bengaluru and Pune operations
DRI seized 18 kg of amphetamine and MDMA in two railway station operations, arresting four persons.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized more than 18 kg of synthetic drugs in two coordinated operations carried out on August 25, 2026, as part of its intensified campaign against drug trafficking networks.
In the first operation, DRI officers intercepted a woman passenger at KSR Bengaluru Railway Station who had arrived by train from New Delhi. A detailed examination of her baggage led to the recovery of seven packets containing a crystalline substance weighing approximately 14.9 kg. Field tests using a drug detection kit confirmed the presence of amphetamine.
Following the seizure, officers conducted a swift follow-up operation at the designated delivery location. A person who arrived to receive the baggage was intercepted, and further action led to the arrest of another individual who had come to collect the contraband from the first receiver. All three persons were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
In a separate, unrelated operation on the same day, DRI intercepted another woman passenger at Pune Junction station who was travelling from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station in Delhi. Her baggage yielded approximately 2.53 kg of a white and yellow crystalline substance suspected to be amphetamine, along with 878 grams of MDMA tablets. The passenger was arrested under the NDPS Act.
These seizures are part of a broader crackdown by the DRI on synthetic drug trafficking. Over the past fortnight, the agency has intercepted around 150 kg of amphetamine-type stimulants across five operations. This includes 76 kg of methamphetamine tablets seized in two operations along India's North-Eastern frontier, and 55.86 kg of methamphetamine concealed in an export consignment destined for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
