Drones Strike Iraqi Kurdistan PM's Office; No Casualties Reported

Two drones targeted the office of Iraqi Kurdistan's PM on Monday. No casualties were reported. The KRG says the attack was launched from Iran.

Two drones targeted the office of the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) prime minister in northern Iraq on Monday, according to the region's security agency. No casualties were reported in the attack.

The KRG security agency stated that the attack was launched from Iranian territory, though it did not clarify whether the drones struck their intended target. No group has yet claimed responsibility.

The incident comes amid longstanding tensions between Iran and the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region. Tehran and Iran-backed armed groups have repeatedly accused Iraqi Kurdistan of harbouring Iranian Kurdish opposition groups, which Iran views as a security threat. Kurdish authorities have consistently denied allowing their territory to be used against neighbouring countries.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani condemned the attack in strong terms on social media, calling it a "dangerous escalation" and a direct threat to regional security and stability. He said his personal office and the home of the head of the region's Security and Intelligence Agency were targeted, citing an investigation by the Kurdistan Counter Terrorism Unit.

The Kurdistan region has faced repeated drone and rocket attacks in recent years. In July 2025, a four-day wave of drone strikes on its oilfields halted nearly half of the region's crude production, with security officials pointing to Iran-backed militias as likely perpetrators. In April 2024, a drone attack on the Khor Mor gas field killed four Yemeni workers and forced a suspension of gas supplies to regional power plants.
