Dalit Samiti Condemns Pratap Simha's Remarks, Opposes Kalaburagi Samavesha

The Karnataka State Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (DSS) has strongly condemned remarks attributed to former MP Pratap Simha targeting the Dalit community, the organisation, and the wearing of blue scarves, calling them highly objectionable and derogatory.

Addressing a press conference in Kalaburagi on Tuesday, DSS State convener D.G. Sagar said the statements, made during a recent Ganesha idol immersion procession at T. Narsipur, showed a deep disregard for the history of Karnataka's Dalit movement and for the constitutional values of equality and social justice.

Dr. Sagar traced the DSS's origins to the 1970s, describing it as a social movement that gave voice to marginalised communities and waged sustained struggles against caste discrimination, untouchability, the exploitation of women, and religious superstition across the State.

He said it was deeply condemnable for a former Member of Parliament to make disparaging remarks about a movement that had fought for the dignity and rights of oppressed communities, and warned that such statements could provoke communal tensions.

The DSS convener demanded that Mr. Simha tender an unconditional apology to the Dalit community and withdraw his remarks. He also attacked the ideological positions of the RSS and the BJP, alleging that their politics contributes to social divisions.

Responding to a question, Dr. Sagar said the DSS would oppose the proposed Basavadi Sharanara Hindu Samavesha scheduled to be held in Kalaburagi city on September 27. He urged the district administration and police to withhold permission for Adrushya Kadasiddeshwara Swami of Kaneri Mutt to address the rally, alleging that the seer's statements could disturb communal harmony in the region.
