Two DU Law Students Arrested After Harassment of Hindu College Women in Mukherjee Nagar

Two Delhi University law students have been arrested in connection with the harassment of two women from Hindu College in north Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar on Wednesday evening. A third accused is still at large, police said.

The arrested men, identified as Abhinav and Abhimanyu, were taken into custody on Friday. The third suspect, Naman, who was allegedly driving the vehicle, remains absconding. All three are students of the Faculty of Law at Delhi University, and the two arrested men are reported to be from Bihar.

According to the complaint, the two women were walking in the Mukherjee Nagar area around 9:30 pm on Wednesday after visiting Vijaynagar's Haqiqat Park when a white Tata Safari approached them. The men inside allegedly passed comments at them, and the exchange escalated when the women objected.

The harassment is said to have begun when Naman, at the wheel of the SUV, remarked that one of the women's T-shirts "looks great". She was wearing a red T-shirt with the words "Urban Mindset" printed on it. An argument broke out over the comment.

The woman alleged that when they asked the men not to misbehave and to leave, the group abused them and began following them. As the two students stopped to film the incident, the car also halted and the men attempted to pull them into the vehicle, she said. The accused fled when her friend started recording.

In a video posted on Instagram, the woman, a first-year Master's student at Hindu College, recounted the sequence of events. She said that after her friend took out a phone, the men ran away.

She also claimed that she and her friend approached the Maurice Nagar police station to lodge a complaint but were told the location of the incident did not fall under its jurisdiction. She said she had visited three police stations over four to five hours without an FIR being registered.

A case was subsequently filed at the Mukherjee Nagar police station based on her complaint. Police are also examining her allegation that she approached multiple police stations before the complaint was registered.

During interrogation, the two arrested students told the police that they had consumed alcohol at the time of the incident.
