DUSU Elections 2026: Voting Underway Across Delhi University, Results Tomorrow

Voting for the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections is underway, with students casting ballots for the posts of president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary. More than 1.5 lakh students are expected to vote, and the results will be declared tomorrow.

Polling is being held in two shifts. The first, for day classes, ran from 8:30 am to 1 pm, while the second, for evening classes, began at 3 pm and will close at 7 pm. Movement picked up across both the North and South Campuses as polling commenced, with heavy crowds gathering around the Law Faculty since the morning. Three colleges attached to the faculty account for a large share of voters, which is why student organisations are keeping a close watch on the area.

Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place across the campus and its surroundings. Delhi Police personnel, paramilitary forces and SSB personnel have been deployed, and security teams are maintaining a continuous vigil around polling stations.

A dispute over campaign material was reported near the Law Faculty in the morning. ABVP alleged that leaflets and pamphlets were found in the bags of some NSUI supporters. The party protested, following which police and security personnel reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

Conversations with students at polling stations suggest that safety has emerged as a major concern, particularly in the wake of the Satya Niketan incident. A student from Satyawati College said the incident had shaken her deeply, though she added that other campus issues mattered just as much. She said she was voting for candidates who would raise these concerns forcefully. Among South Campus students, hostels and safe student accommodation have become a key issue in the aftermath of the incident.

Better hostel infrastructure, libraries, safe drinking water and campus placements are among the other issues students want their elected representatives to address.

The previous election saw ABVP win the president, secretary and joint secretary posts, while NSUI took the vice-president's position. The AISA-SFI alliance's candidate for secretary polled around 10,000 votes.

Voter turnout has been a persistent talking point in recent DUSU elections. Around 39.45 per cent voting was recorded last time, compared with about 35.2 per cent in 2024. Student activity has been brisk since the morning, but whether the final figure surpasses earlier records will be known only after polling closes at 7 pm.

This election is also notable as the first major student poll in Delhi after the Gen Z movement a few months ago, with a large number of Gen Z voters taking part. Ahead of polling, student organisations visited PG accommodations and hostels until late last night and into the morning, seeking support for their candidates. Which organisation has won the students' backing will become clear only when the results are announced tomorrow.
