A Dutch tour bus overturned in eastern Switzerland on Thursday afternoon, killing several people and injuring others, police said. The coach was carrying 48 passengers.

A Dutch tour bus overturned in eastern Switzerland on Thursday afternoon, leaving several people dead and others injured, according to police.

The coach went off the road between the villages of Susch and Zernez in Graubuenden, an Alpine canton in the country's east. Rescue teams were dispatched to the scene, and authorities did not immediately provide a precise count of the dead and injured.

Swiss media reported that 48 people were travelling on the bus. A spokeswoman for ANVR, a Dutch travel industry association, told the Blick newspaper that the passengers were Dutch nationals.

A police spokesman said the coach struck the crash barrier before overturning. No other vehicles were believed to have been involved in the incident.

Oad, the travel agency that organised the trip, said in a statement issued in Dutch that it was "deeply shocked and devastated by the tragic bus accident," adding that its thoughts were with those affected and their loved ones.

Emergency responders worked through the night at the site, where footage showed crews towing the overturned bus away.
