EasyJet Portugal Cabin Crew Back Strikes in October and Before Christmas
EasyJet cabin crew in Portugal have voted to strike from October 2-6 and December 19-23, with the SNPVAC union warning of hundreds of grounded flights.
Cabin crew employed by EasyJet in Portugal have voted in favour of industrial action, with walkouts planned for two separate periods, a spokesperson for the SNPVAC union said on Thursday.
The first strike is scheduled to run from October 2 to 6, while a second is set for December 19 to 23, placing it in the busy pre-Christmas travel window. The union said the action could ground hundreds of flights at Portuguese airports.
According to the spokesperson for the leading Portuguese cabin crew union, conditions for Portugal-based crew have continued to worsen despite earlier warnings that the airline had not resolved the problems raised.
The union's complaints include unstable rosters, breaches of the company agreement, discriminatory treatment relative to pilots, failures in operational planning, and pressure on staff to work overtime in order to cover shortages.
The vote marks an escalation in the long-running dispute over working conditions for EasyJet's Portuguese cabin crew, with the December dates in particular threatening to disrupt holiday travel.
