ECI: SIR Notice Holders to Get Home Visits by BLOs, Hearings Only in Rare Cases
Election Commission says SIR notices over unmapped entries or logical discrepancies will usually be settled via BLO home visits, with personal hearings only in exceptional cases.
The Election Commission has outlined how it plans to handle cases arising from the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, stating that people who receive notices over unmapped entries or logical discrepancies will generally not be required to appear for personal hearings.
Instead, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit the homes of those issued notices to collect the necessary documents. This doorstep approach is intended to make the verification process easier for electors and reduce the need for them to travel or appear in person.
According to the Commission, personal hearings will be held only in exceptional cases. Even when such a hearing is necessary, it will preferably be conducted online.
The arrangement applies to cases involving unmapped entries or logical discrepancies flagged during the SIR exercise. By relying primarily on home visits and document collection, the poll body aims to resolve most such cases without formal hearings.
The Commission's statement sets out a clear preference for resolving discrepancies at the doorstep, with in-person proceedings kept to a minimum and shifted online where possible.
