Television's Biggest Names Walk Blue Carpet at 78th Emmy Awards

Television's leading figures assembled at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Monday night for the 78th annual Emmy Awards, walking a blue carpet rather than the traditional red.

The colour choice reflected the peacock emblem of broadcaster NBC, which aired the ceremony live and is marking its 100th anniversary this year. The event was also streamed live on Peacock.

Among those posing for photographs and greeting colleagues before the ceremony were host Mariska Hargitay and nominees Colman Domingo and Katherine LaNasa. Hargitay, a three-time Emmy winner, is also a double nominee this year for directing and producing the documentary "My Mom Jayne." She was joined on the carpet by Peter Hermann, Andrew Hermann, Amaya Hermann and August Hermann.

Other arrivals included Jonny Haug, Jackie Tohn, Denée Benton, Gerran Howell, Nicole Brydon, Thomas Doherty, Noah Kahan, Fiona Dourif, Lukita Maxwell and Jason Segel, the latter appearing first alone and then with Kayla Radomski.

The ceremony marked the 30th anniversary of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and the 50th anniversary of "Charlie's Angels," with cast members from both shows among the presenters.

HBO Max's real-time emergency room drama "The Pitt" entered last year's awards as a newcomer and took best drama, best actor for star Noah Wyle and best supporting actress for LaNasa. Now regarded as an established contender, the show is expected to repeat in all three categories and could add three more, with Wyle himself nominated for three trophies. Its ensemble earned four nominations in the supporting actress category and three more for supporting actor.

"Euphoria" returned to the Emmys after a long absence with seven nominations. Zendaya, who won best actress in a drama for the show's first two seasons in 2020 and 2022, received a nod for the recently aired third season.
