Emmy Night 2: 'Widow's Bay' tops with 8 wins, 'DTF St. Louis' and 'Spider-Noir' follow
Apple TV's 'Widow's Bay' won eight Emmys on Night 2, leading HBO Max's 'DTF St. Louis' (6) and Prime Video's 'Spider-Noir' (5).
The second night of the 78th Emmy Awards, held at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, saw Apple TV's 'Widow's Bay' emerge as the dominant force, collecting eight trophies. The comedy series swept several technical and craft categories, including Outstanding Casting, Cinematography for a Half-Hour Series, Music Supervision, Original Dramatic Score, and Production Design. Betty Gilpin also won for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in the show.
HBO Max's 'DTF St. Louis' was the night's second-biggest winner with six awards. The limited series earned honors for its leads, with David Harbour and Linda Cardellini winning their first Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress, respectively. Creator Steven Conrad took home awards for both Outstanding Directing and Writing, while the series also won for Cinematography and Picture Editing.
Prime Video's 'Spider-Noir', despite its recent cancellation after one season, secured five wins. Its accolades included Outstanding Stunt Coordination for Comedy Programming, Cinematography for a One-Hour Series, Sound Editing, Title Design, and Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode.
Other notable winners included Comedy Central's 'South Park', which won its first Outstanding Animated Program award since 2013 for the special 'Sermon On The Mount'. The late Rob Reiner received a posthumous Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for 'The Bear', prompting a standing ovation. Julie Andrews won for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance for 'Bridgerton', becoming the oldest woman to win in that category at age 90.
The Television Academy also presented its inaugural Legacy Award to 'I Love Lucy' for its influence on the sitcom format and television syndication. Apple TV led all platforms on the night with 18 total wins. The first two nights of the ceremony will be edited into a special airing on FXX on September 12, ahead of the main Primetime Emmys telecast on September 14.
