Gunfight in J&K's Pirpanjal Range; Two Foreign Terrorists Suspected Holed Up
Security forces are engaged in an anti-terror operation in the Pirpanjal mountains of Yousmarg, J&K, with two foreign terrorists believed to be hiding.
A major anti-terror operation is underway in the Pirpanjal mountain range near Yousmarg in Jammu and Kashmir, following an exchange of fire between security forces and suspected militants. Police confirmed that the gunfight broke out during a cordon-and-search operation launched in the rugged terrain.
According to a senior police officer, at least two terrorists, believed to be foreigners, are hiding in the cordoned-off area. The officer said, "We have launched an operation in the area. There was an exchange of firing. The operation is underway."
The operation comes amid heightened security vigilance in the region. Last week, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat visited the area where police have established high-altitude jungle warfare units. These units are tasked with tracking down terrorists who are suspected to be well-trained in jungle warfare and deeply entrenched in the Pirpanjal mountains.
Since Operation Sindoor in May last year, the ground situation in Jammu and Kashmir has seen a notable shift, with terrorist activities and infiltration attempts from Pakistan witnessing a sharp decline. Security forces have continued relentless operations across the region. Following two terror incidents in July, a massive crackdown was launched across Kashmir, leading to the arrest of more than 3,000 suspects.
