EPS Ridicules 'Vijay for PM' Pitch, Says Actor Could 'Replace Trump'

AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday took a sarcastic swipe at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay's reported Prime Ministerial ambitions, suggesting the actor-turned-politician could aim even higher.

"He could even become the President of US. He can replace Trump. It is not wrong. There is nothing wrong with it, it is his wish. He can become India's President or Prime Minister," Palaniswami said, mocking the growing chorus within the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to project Vijay for the top post.

The former Chief Minister also dismissed the state government's governance style, criticising its reliance on social media optics. "They are running the government by putting out 'reels' here; that won't work there," he remarked.

Shifting focus to law and order, Palaniswami alleged a complete breakdown in the state's administrative machinery. "Within 110 days, the law and order situation has completely collapsed. Wherever you look, murders, robberies, and clashes are increasing," he claimed.

The 'Vijay for PM' campaign has gained traction after TVK leaders Aadhav Arjuna and Sarathkumar openly pitched Vijay for the Prime Minister's post. Posters supporting the slogan have surfaced in Tuticorin, causing unease among alliance partners.

Congress MP Karti Chidambaram had earlier dismissed the pitch as a "fan club mindset." Meanwhile, MDMK chief Vaiko cautioned that ministers should not publicly articulate positions that could complicate the alliance, stating he believes such a thought was not even in Vijay's mind.

Vijay himself has remained silent on the issue. The campaign's timeline is unclear—whether it targets the 2029 Lok Sabha elections or a later national contest. The stakes are high for the Vijay government, which holds a narrow majority with 107 MLAs in the 234-member Assembly, 11 short of the simple majority mark.
