Evil Dead Burn Lands on HBO Max on October 2 Ahead of Halloween

The latest chapter in the Evil Dead horror franchise is heading to streaming. Evil Dead Burn will premiere on HBO Max on October 2, positioning the film for viewers in the run-up to Halloween.

The movie, one of the year's more anticipated horror titles, opened in theatres on July 10. It is the third film since the series was rebooted in 2013 and the sixth entry in the franchise overall.

Directed by Sebastien Vanicek, the film centres on a woman who turns to her in-laws for comfort after her husband's death. Their get-together at an isolated house quickly becomes a nightmare when the family members are turned into Deadites.

Souheila Yacoub, known for Dune: Part Two, leads the cast. She is joined by Hunter Doohan (Wednesday, Daredevil: Born Again), Luciane Buchanan (The Night Agent), Tandi Wright (Pearl), Erroll Shand (Chief of War), George Pullar (It Only Takes a Night) and Maude Davey (The Newsreader).

Created by Sam Raimi, the franchise now comprises six films and a television series. Its stories follow characters who run into demonic beings called Deadites, summoned through a mysterious book of the dead — referred to as the Naturom Demonto in the first, fourth and fifth films and the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis in the second, third and sixth.

The original trilogy featured Bruce Campbell in The Evil Dead (1981), Evil Dead II (1987) and Army of Darkness (1992). A 2013 standalone sequel, Evil Dead, followed, along with the Starz series Ash vs Evil Dead, in which Campbell returned to his role. That show ran from 2015 to 2018. The fifth film, Evil Dead Rise, came out in 2023, while a seventh, Evil Dead Wrath, directed by Francis Galluppi, is set for release in April 2028.

Evil Dead Burn was produced by Raimi and Robert Tapert under their Ghost House Pictures banner. Campbell, Romel Adam, Lee Cronin and Jose Cañas served as executive producers.
