Man posing as PMO official, armed aide held ahead of PM Modi's Mumbai event
A man impersonating a PMO official and his armed aide were arrested in Mumbai ahead of PM Modi's event.
Mumbai Police have arrested two individuals in connection with a security breach attempt at an event attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The incident took place on September 7 at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).
The primary suspect, identified as 24-year-old Rohan Parekh, allegedly attempted to enter the venue using a fake identity card that claimed he was an official from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). He was accompanied by another man who claimed to be his bodyguard and was found to be carrying a firearm.
Security personnel at the high-security venue grew suspicious during document verification. Parekh's purported PMO identification was deemed fraudulent, and he failed to provide any valid credentials. The duo was subsequently detained and handed over to the Mumbai Police for questioning.
A court has remanded Parekh to police custody until September 11. The investigation has been transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch, with the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) and local police also involved in the ongoing probe. The firearm recovered from the alleged bodyguard is a key piece of evidence in the case.
