Family of four attempts suicide in Godavari; wife rescued, three missing

A family of four attempted suicide in the Godavari River due to financial problems. The wife was rescued; husband and two children are missing.

In a tragic incident early Saturday morning, a family of four attempted to end their lives in the Godavari River in the Yelamanchili Mandal area of West Godavari district. The family, residents of Tanuku town, has been identified as Namuburu Srinivas (45), his wife Padmini (42), and their children Eswar (16) and Nithyasri (12).

According to Yelamanchili Sub-Inspector M. Raj Kumar, the family took the extreme step due to financial difficulties. Srinivas was a milk vendor in nearby villages, while Padmini operated a pan shop in Tanuku. Their son Eswar was a polytechnic student, and their daughter Nithyasri was in the ninth grade.

Local fisherfolk, who were fishing in the river at the time, noticed the family and managed to rescue Padmini. She has been admitted to Eluru Government Hospital, where her condition is reported to be out of danger.

A massive search operation involving fire department personnel, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local police is underway to locate the three missing family members. The police have registered a missing case and are investigating the matter.
