Fan Bingbing returns to TIFF with new film, set for Tribute Award
Fan Bingbing is back at TIFF after a decade, premiering Wayne Wang's 'Diary of a Mad Old Man' and receiving a Tribute Award on Sunday.
Chinese actor and producer Fan Bingbing returned to the Toronto International Film Festival on Thursday, walking the opening-night red carpet ahead of the world premiere of Wayne Wang's "Diary of a Mad Old Man."
The appearance marks a homecoming of sorts for the award-winning performer, who last attended the festival in 2016 with "I Am Not Madame Bovary." Speaking on the carpet, she described the gap since her previous visit and her anticipation for the new film.
"So I think maybe 10 years ago I had to be here, so now I just bring my new film, so I so, feel so excited," she said. "So I just, I don't know, I can't imagine maybe a lot of audience look my new movie, so I feel, it's, I, I, I don't know, maybe..."
Beyond the premiere, the festival will recognise her body of work. Asked about the honour, she confirmed she is receiving the tribute, and reflected on the span of her career.
"I think maybe give me the new prize. To me, maybe I just do the work shooting film (for) about 30 years. It's a long time, so for me I just feel so excited," she said.
The Tribute Award is scheduled to be presented on Sunday. The festival is underway in Toronto.
