Faridabad Hit-and-Run: Speeding SUV Kills 3 Siblings After Rakhi Reunion
A speeding Fortuner killed three siblings and injured a fourth at a Faridabad bus stand, hours after their Raksha Bandhan reunion. Driver fled; police probe on.
A family gathering for Raksha Bandhan in Faridabad ended in tragedy on Saturday when a speeding Toyota Fortuner ploughed into four siblings waiting at a bus stand, killing three of them.
The siblings—two brothers and two sisters—had reunited at the home of one brother, Akhilesh, to celebrate the festival. After spending the night together, they were at a nearby bus stand on Saturday morning to see off the siblings who were returning to their residence in Kulena, Palwal.
Witnesses said the group had been waiting for roughly 10 to 15 minutes when the SUV struck them. The impact killed Akhilesh and another brother, Avadhesh, on the spot. The two sisters, Saroj and Rajkumari, were critically injured and rushed to a hospital. Saroj later succumbed to her injuries on Saturday evening, while Rajkumari remains admitted at SSB Hospital in Faridabad.
The driver fled the scene, making it a hit-and-run case. Police have registered charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash driving and causing death by negligence. The SUV is registered to Unimec Overseas Private Limited.
Local residents said speeding vehicles are a persistent hazard at the spot, and that CCTV cameras in the area are not functional, which could hamper the investigation. A nearby shop owner said he had previously narrowly escaped a similar accident at the same location.
The family originally hails from Kharakpur in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. What began as a celebration of the bond between siblings has left a family mourning three members, with one sister still fighting for her life.
