FASTag annual pass crosses one crore mark since August 2025 launch

The road transport ministry said over one crore FASTag annual passes have been issued since the scheme launched on 15 August 2025.

More than one crore FASTag annual passes have been issued since the scheme was introduced on 15 August 2025, the ministry of road transport and highways said on Monday, describing the take-up as rapid.

The pass covers close to 1,150 toll plazas on national highways and expressways. For a one-time payment of Rs 3,075, a driver can travel for a full year or make up to 200 toll crossings without repeated top-ups. It is open to all non-commercial vehicles holding a valid FASTag.

Activation takes place within two hours on a vehicle's existing FASTag once the fee is paid through the Rajmargyatra app or the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) website, allowing uninterrupted travel on national highways.

The pass cannot be transferred between vehicles and applies at national highway and national expressway fee plazas. At plazas on expressways or state highways run by state governments or local bodies, the FASTag continues to draw on the existing wallet balance for tolls and parking charges.

The ministry said the growing adoption underlines the pass's role in making national highway travel seamless and cost-effective, and reflected NHAI's push for a safe and smooth highway experience.

The scheme arrived against persistent concern over highway toll rates. Several new corridors carry a string of toll plazas that can make particular routes expensive for private and commercial transport alike. One-way travel on the under-construction 1,386-km Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, for example, is estimated to cost between Rs 1,000 and Rs 3,000 depending on vehicle type.

Separately, NHAI said on 17 September that it had brought its FASTag portability service, OneTag, to the newly launched Rajmargyatra mobile app. The feature lets users attach an existing vehicle sticker to a different bank account and change issuer banks without swapping the physical tag.
