FCC Chair Defends ABC License Review, Says No Final Decisions Made
FCC chair Brendan Carr defends the ongoing DEI investigation into Disney's ABC stations, dismissing the company's lawsuit as premature.
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Brendan Carr has defended the agency's ongoing review of Disney's diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices, pushing back against the company's legal challenge to the process.
In an interview on Tuesday, Carr addressed Disney's lawsuit seeking to block the FCC's early examination of its eight company-owned ABC television stations. He suggested the legal action reflects unease on the company's part, stating that "Disney seems to be a little nervous about what the record's showing."
Carr, however, clarified that the FCC has not reached any conclusions regarding the future of Disney's broadcast licenses. He emphasized that no final decisions have been made about whether to initiate proceedings that could potentially lead to license revocation.
"We haven't made a decision about when we're making a decision," Carr said, underscoring the preliminary nature of the review.
The FCC's scrutiny of DEI policies at Disney-owned stations has drawn attention as part of a broader regulatory focus on media ownership and compliance. The agency's review remains in its early stages, with Carr indicating that the timeline for any next steps is still undetermined.
