Fetterman makes unprecedented pitch to Republican convention

In a striking display of cross-party engagement, Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania addressed the Republican Midterm Convention in Dallas via video message. The appearance marks a significant escalation in the senator's public break with many of his Democratic colleagues.
During his remarks, Fetterman introduced Republican Senator Dave McCormick of Pennsylvania, calling him "a great American" and "a great senator." He framed the endorsement around a shared commitment to Pennsylvania's industrial heritage, speaking from a location in front of a steel mill.
"I'm always going to stand with America," Fetterman said, adding that he would "reject the extremes and socialism and that anti-American way of life." He also pledged to work with former President Donald Trump to "fight and defend the steel way of life" in the region.
The address underscores Fetterman's growing isolation within his own party. He has maintained a staunchly pro-Israel stance on the Gaza conflict and has been openly critical of left-wing candidates affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America. In the Senate, he has frequently broken ranks, voting with Republicans on several key issues, including supporting multiple Trump administration nominations and opposing efforts to end the war in Iran.
