Centre to Withdraw FIRs Against CJP-Led Protesters, Says Nadda
Centre and BJP-ruled states will withdraw FIRs against CJP protesters after the Supreme Court quashed cases linked to July NEET-UG demonstrations.
Union Minister J.P. Nadda on Tuesday reiterated the Centre's commitment to withdraw all First Information Reports (FIRs) registered against students who took part in the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protests in July. The assurance comes shortly after the CJP called off its planned September 5 march in Delhi.
The Supreme Court had earlier quashed all FIRs filed against students involved in the nationwide demonstrations held from July 20 to 25, which were linked to the NEET-UG paper leak. Following this judicial action, the CJP withdrew its call for a march from India Gate to the Delhi Police headquarters.
Welcoming the CJP's decision, Mr. Nadda stated that no stringent action would be taken against those who participated in the July 20 protest. He added that the Centre had consulted all BJP-ruled states, which have also assured their cooperation in withdrawing the cases against the protesters.
The Union Minister emphasised that the welfare and progress of the country's youth remains the government's utmost priority. The CJP had announced the march to press its demand for the withdrawal of FIRs, alleging that the Centre had failed to honour promises made during the earlier protests.
