
Surat to Host 89th Fit India Cycle Drive Against Drug Abuse
89th Fit India Sundays on Cycle in Surat on Sept 6 promotes PM Modi's 'Nasha Mukt Yuva' call with sports stars.
The 89th edition of the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative will be held in Surat on September 6, with a focus on steering young people toward fitness and away from substance abuse. The event is themed around Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for a 'Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat' (drug-free youth for a developed India).
Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, will lead the cycling event, and Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi is also slated to take part. The initiative aims to use sports and community engagement as tools to build a healthier, more disciplined generation.
Dr. Mandaviya said the ride is dedicated to encouraging youth to embrace an active lifestyle, adding that such fitness activities help create a generation committed to building a developed India. The Prime Minister had recently highlighted drug abuse as a major national crisis during his Independence Day address.
The Surat ride aligns with the 100-week Jan Bhagidari campaign under the 'Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan', which promotes awareness and community participation against substance abuse.
The cycle rally will start at 6:00 AM from the Sardar Patel Statue at Mangadh Chowk, pass through Mini Bazaar and Varachha Main Road, and conclude at Sarthana Zoo.
Prominent athletes, including Padma Shri Olympian Achanta Sharath Kamal, Arjuna Awardee Sarita Mor, wrestler Shivani Pawar, and Commonwealth medallist Rahul Mann, will join the initiative.
