The 89th Fit India Sundays on Cycle in Surat drew over 5 million participants nationwide, with leaders taking the Nasha Mukt pledge.
The 89th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle was held in Surat, Gujarat, on Sunday, with the theme 'Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat'. Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi led the event, which saw participation from athletes, students, and citizens.
The ride began at Sardar Patel Statue, Mangadh Chowk, and concluded at Sarthana Zoo, covering 6 kilometres. Before the ride, participants engaged in yoga, zumba, and other fitness activities. Dr. Mandaviya administered the Nasha Mukt Pledge, urging the youth to stay away from substance abuse.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Mandaviya highlighted the benefits of cycling, calling it an effective exercise that supports the anti-drug campaign, reduces pollution, and conserves fuel. He encouraged people to cycle daily, not just on Sundays, to strengthen the vision of a 'Fit India'.
The nationwide movement saw over 5 million participants across more than 25,000 locations. Notable athletes, including Padma Shri awardee Achanta Sharath Kamal, wrestler Sarita Mor, and table tennis player Harmeet Desai, joined the ride to spread awareness.
