Four children killed as milk van mows them down near Vadamadurai

Four children, including two sisters, died after a milk van hit them near Vadamadurai in Dindigul district on Sunday. The driver has been arrested.

Four children, including two sisters, were killed on the spot when a milk van ran over them near Vadamadurai in Dindigul district on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

The victims were identified as Yogavarshini, 11, and her sister Ananya, 6; Dhanusri, 5; and Mosikaran, 6. They were relatives of Anjammal, 60, of Kanavaimedu near Kollapatti Samathuvapuram, who was grazing her goats near the national highway at the time. The children were playing on the roadside when the incident occurred.

Anjammal fainted after witnessing the accident and was taken to a primary health centre. Local residents alerted emergency services and helped send the bodies to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Dindigul.

The driver, identified as Saravana Kumar of Kurunthampatti near Ayyalur, fled the scene but was later apprehended by Vadamadurai police, who also seized the vehicle. Preliminary investigation indicated the van was driven in a rash and negligent manner and went out of control before hitting the children. The driver's confession has been recorded, and further investigation is underway.
