Fox greenlights 'Mammoth', a new comedy from 'Modern Family' co-creator

Fox has given a series order to 'Mammoth', a new live-action comedy from Christopher Lloyd, co-creator of 'Modern Family'. Danny Zuker, another 'Modern Family' veteran, will serve as writer and executive producer.

The show is adapted from a British sitcom of the same name by Mike Bubbins. The premise follows Coach Tony Mammoth, a high school gym teacher buried in an avalanche in 1983. He is revived forty years later in a world he barely recognises, though he remains convinced it did not need to change. The character clings to his 1980s lifestyle, complete with a Burt Reynolds-style moustache and a treasured Trans-Am, as he returns to teaching and confronts modern rules and relationships.

Lloyd and Zuker will write, showrun, and executive produce the series. Mark Linsey and Angie Stephenson of BBC Studios Los Angeles, along with Bubbins, are also attached as executive producers. Production will be handled by Fox Entertainment Studios.

The project marks Fox's first live-action comedy greenlight in over two years. It is slated to premiere during the 2027-28 television season.

Lloyd expressed enthusiasm for the central character, describing Tony Mammoth as someone who believes he mastered manhood the first time around. He called the character charming, self-assured, and hopelessly out of step, yet impossible not to root for.
