FSSAI seized misbranded infant food from British Life Sciences in Bengaluru and destroyed 3.7 tonnes of expired stock under court orders.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has cracked down on a Bengaluru-based manufacturer of infant nutrition products after inspections revealed serious compliance failures.
Officials raided British Life Sciences Private Limited and found a substantial quantity of misbranded infant food articles on the premises. The stock was seized under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Following the inspection, the regulator initiated legal proceedings against the firm, citing the potential risk that non-compliant infant food poses to young children. In a statement, FSSAI said the violations were serious enough to warrant strict regulatory action.
Acting on directions from a court, authorities ordered the destruction of approximately 3.7 metric tonnes of expired infant food products. The disposal was carried out safely to ensure the stock could not be reused, diverted, or reintroduced into the food chain.
British Life Sciences, part of the British Biologicals group, specialises in maternal and child nutrition. The company describes itself as one of the world's largest manufacturers of medical nutrition products, catering to pediatric, diabetic, geriatric, cardiovascular, and hepatitis healthcare needs.
The enforcement drive is part of a wider FSSAI initiative targeting companies producing infant food products, with the aim of ensuring safety and compliance across the sector.
