G20 finance chiefs to meet in Asheville with growth, debt and Iran on agenda

Finance leaders from the Group of 20 major economies will gather in Asheville, North Carolina, on Monday and Tuesday for a meeting hosted by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. The talks mark a return to the G20 process for the United States, which had skipped the South Africa-led meetings last year.
A senior US Treasury official said the administration wants the group to agree on concrete steps to spur economic growth and correct global imbalances. Sovereign debt challenges facing several economies are also expected to be a central topic of discussion.
Beyond the economic agenda, Washington intends to use the forum to press other nations to cut off financial lifelines to Iran. The official said the administration will push for coordinated action to tighten economic pressure on Tehran.
The meeting brings together finance ministers and central bank governors from the world's largest economies in the Blue Ridge Mountains city, setting the stage for what US officials describe as a working session focused on shared economic priorities.
