GAIL pipeline leak on Samruddhi Expressway triggers overnight traffic diversion

A gas leak from a GAIL pipeline near Takliwadi in Gangapur taluka prompted authorities to divert traffic along a 24-kilometre stretch of the Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district on Saturday evening.

The leak was reported at approximately 5 p.m. on August 29, 2026. District administration officials said precautionary measures were initiated immediately, and GAIL authorities were alerted. Fire-fighting teams were kept on standby at the location as a safety measure.

District Collector Vinay Gowda confirmed that the administration acted swiftly, calling GAIL officials to the spot while ensuring fire-fighting resources were available. Vehicles heading towards Nagpur were directed to exit at the Maliwada interchange, travel via the Dhule-Solapur highway, and re-enter the expressway at Hadas Pimpalgaon.

Normal traffic movement was restored between the Hadas Pimpalgaon and Maliwada sections at 4 a.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026, after the situation was brought under control. No casualties or injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
