In a swift operation on Saturday night, the Galiveedu police in Annamayya district rescued a woman and her two children who were reportedly attempting to end their lives at Veligallu dam, located about 65 km away.
The police received a distress call at approximately 7:15 p.m. from a man residing in Talupula mandal of Sri Sathya Sai district. He reported that his wife had left home with their children following a family dispute and was heading to the dam with the intention of harming themselves.
Acting immediately, Sub-Inspector Narasimha Reddy and his team rushed to the location. They found the woman moving along the dam's bund with her children. The officers tactfully engaged her attention and safely brought all three to safety.
During preliminary inquiry, the woman said she took the step due to misunderstandings with her husband. Her family members arrived at Galiveedu around midnight. After counselling, the couple and their relatives returned to their native place.
Superintendent of Police Dheeraj Kunubilli appreciated the SI and his team for their prompt response. Authorities urge those in distress to seek help by dialing 100.
