Gandhari Makers Reject Plagiarism Claims, Call Film Original
Kathha Pictures denies plagiarism allegations against 'Gandhari', calling the film an original work by Kanika Dhillon.
The makers of the upcoming Taapsee Pannu film 'Gandhari' have strongly denied allegations that the movie borrows from another writer's concept and title. In a statement posted on Instagram, Kathha Pictures, the production house behind the project, dismissed the claims as false and unverified.
The statement said that 'Gandhari' is an original work, written and produced by Kanika Dhillon, and developed by Kathha Pictures. The makers urged the media and the public not to treat the allegations as established fact or repeat them further.
The controversy follows a Mumbai-based writer's reported claim that elements of his work were used in the film. However, the production house has not named the writer or provided further details.
Set in the fictional town of Joypurra, 'Gandhari' tells the story of Bani, a mother who navigates a dangerous world in her relentless pursuit of her daughter. The film explores themes of love, resilience, courage, and sacrifice.
Besides Taapsee Pannu, the film features Ishwak Singh, Chhaya Kadam, Swastika Mukherjee, Mita Vashisht, and Jatin Sarna in key roles. 'Gandhari' is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on September 3.
