VCI halts Garividi veterinary college admissions over staff shortage, SFI alleges

The Student Federation of India (SFI) has accused the State government of failing to fill permanent teaching positions at the veterinary college in Garividi, Vizianagaram district, leading to a halt in new admissions. The organisation claims that the institution has been operating largely with staff appointed on deputation and contractual terms.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, SFI State president P. Ramamohan and State secretary K. Prasanna Kumar said the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) has consequently stopped admissions for the 2026-27 academic year.

The student body noted that the college attracts aspirants from various districts and remote villages across the State. They pointed out that recent improvements to classrooms, hostels, and other basic infrastructure had raised expectations of quality education. However, the current staffing approach has dashed those hopes, potentially forcing many students to seek veterinary education outside the State.

The SFI leaders also drew a parallel with the previous TDP government's tenure, claiming that aided educational institutions then suffered from a similar policy of not filling regular teaching vacancies and relying on contractual and outsourcing arrangements. They argued that this has left such institutions weak and ineffective over time.

Demanding immediate corrective action, the SFI has called upon the government to issue a notification to fill all vacant teaching posts at the Garividi college and to ensure that admissions are reopened for the upcoming academic year.
