GATE 2027 Registration Opens: New Robotics Paper, Key Dates Announced

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has commenced the registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027. Aspirants can now submit their applications through the official website, gate2027.iitm.ac.in.

Candidates can register without a late fee until September 27, 2026. Those who miss this deadline can still apply by October 5, 2026, with an additional late fee. The window for correcting application details will be open from October 14 to October 21.

A significant update for this cycle is the introduction of a new test paper on Robotics and Automation (RA). With this addition, GATE 2027 will now be conducted for a total of 30 test papers. IIT Madras has also revised the syllabus for the Biotechnology paper and updated the sectional paper codes for Textile Engineering and Fibre Science, Engineering Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Life Sciences.

The examination is scheduled to be held over multiple sessions on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21, 2027. The city allotment notification is expected to be released on January 4, 2027. While the admit card release date is yet to be announced, results are slated for March 19, 2027.

Eligibility for GATE 2027 extends to students in the third year or higher of their undergraduate programme, as well as graduates holding a government-approved degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities. Candidates with eligible degrees from institutions outside India may also apply, subject to specified conditions.

For Indian nationals, registration through DigiLocker is mandatory. IIT Madras has advised applicants to ensure their DigiLocker accounts are verified and updated before starting the application process. Candidates are permitted to appear for one or two test papers, provided they select from the combinations allowed by the examination authorities.
