Eleven Months Into Gaza Ceasefire, Displaced Palestinians Report Ongoing Strikes
Nearly two million people in Gaza remain displaced as residents describe continuing strikes and block-wide evacuation orders eleven months into a fragile ceasefire.
Eleven months into a fragile ceasefire, Palestinians in Gaza say they are still being displaced and bombed, with Israeli evacuation orders expanding from individual homes to entire residential blocks.
In Gaza City, displaced families living near tents described a routine of sudden orders and nighttime fear. Mohammad Khader, displaced from Jabaliya, said his household sleeps ready to flee at any moment, with women and girls sleeping fully covered out of fear of evacuation notices.
"Every day we have war. Every day we have targeted killings. Every day we have destruction," he said, describing repeated moves from one place to another.
Ameer Al-Sakani, another displaced man, said the orders come daily and leave people with nowhere to turn. "Where should we go? No idea," he said, appealing for a solution as he described destruction across the territory.
Ali al-Hindi, displaced from the Shati refugee camp, said the military no longer specifies which house should be evacuated. "They order the evacuation of the entire block," he said, adding that residents are given no time to take documents, clothes or belongings before an area is struck. Returning families, he said, often cannot tell whether their own home or a neighbour's was hit because whole areas have been levelled.
Mahmoud Solila, also displaced from Shati, said danger is constant. "We are not humans. They do not treat us like humans," he said. "The soul is cheap, but not to that extent."
Israel says its evacuation orders are sometimes temporary and are issued ahead of strikes, and that in some cases it targets weapon storage facilities or Hamas infrastructure. Residents who return after such strikes frequently find widespread destruction even when their homes were not directly hit.
Palestinians in the territory say the combination of evacuation orders and the bombings that follow makes it feel as though no ceasefire is in place.
Nearly two million people in Gaza have been displaced over almost three years, since October 2023, when Israel launched its offensive against Hamas following the militant attack in southern Israel.
